Miss America's Outstanding Teen

ORLANDO, Fla. (August 14, 2006) – Fifty-two of America's outstanding young teen women arrived in Central Florida on Friday setting the stage for what is yet to be a week they will never forget.

The teens arrived in Orlando to compete in the 2007 Miss America's Outstanding Teen scholarship competition that starts on Tuesday, Aug. 15, with the final winner being crowned Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Orange County Convention Center's Chapin Theater.

With the fine hospitality of many local attractions, including Cypress Gardens, Wet 'n' Wild, Medieval Times, not to mention makeovers at Bloomingdale's and the chance to visit the Give Kids the World campus, these teens will have memories to last a lifetime.

Saturday's final competition will be hosted by Miss America 2006 Jennifer Berry and *NSYNC singer Joey Fatone. More than $175,000 in scholarship grants will be distributed amongst the 52 contestants with a $30,000 scholarship awarded to the winner. All 50 states are represented as well as the U.S. Virgin Islands and Washington D.C.

The teens have already visited Cypress Gardens, and Wet 'n' Wild, and will head to Bloomingdale's, Give Kids the World, and many other destinations along with their jam-packed week of rehearsals, and interviews.

In addition to their scholastic achievements and talents, these bright young women have also put forth their time and effort to promote and support the U.S. Dream Academy—an organization that is highlighted this year among the week's events.

"With the guidance of the U.S. Dream Academy, these young women have combined their efforts to help young and at risk children battle illiteracy. Their love and hard work will raise awareness for the thousands of children across the country who do not know how to read," said Donna Bozarth, chairman of Miss America's Outstanding Teen.

In addition to seeing the show live on August 19 at the Chapin Theater (tickets available through Ticketmaster), The N, nighttime network for teens, a programming arm of MTV Networks, will be air the competition on Oct. 28. The N, is currently available in 50 million households via cable, digital cable and satellite television. The N's mission is to be the authentic voice for teens and help them figure out their lives with relevant, topical programming on-air and online at the network's web site www.the-n.com.
